2026 Leadership Team

ATAC is a volunteer driven organization and we thank our leaders for providing all of our great training, racing, and socializing opportunities. Our leadership team is elected at the Annual General Meeting.

PRESIDENT | martijn

Hi, I’m Martijn, originally from Breda and now proud to serve as ATAC’s President.
I joined the club in 2018 after my partner started cycling with a group of ATAC ladies who needed someone to block the wind. Shortly after I joined and I’ve stuck around ever since. My triathlon journey began after a night out ended with a hangover and a surprise registration for a 70.3. I couldn’t swim, didn’t own a bike, and couldn’t run more than 10k (still can’t!).
I’m inspired by those who refuse to give up—because grit beats talent when talent doesn’t show up

SECRETARY | neil

I’m originally from Scotland and have been a long-time resident of Amsterdam and ATAC. I grew up mountain biking before swapping the trails for road cycling, which eventually led me to triathlon. I learned to swim a bit and run (not too fast), and a few years later, completed my first triathlon. Since then, I’ve raced every distance from sprint to Ironman—though cycling remains my favourite. If I could give my 10-year-old self advice, it would be: “Stretch.” I’m inspired by the blind runner who beat me in an ultra, and my dream would be to house every homeless dog!

TREASURER | Matt

Originally from Bristol, UK, I moved to the Netherlands in 2022 and joined ATAC in late 2024, after catching the endurance bug while training for IM 70.3 Cascais. My introduction to racing was pure panic: I forgot my wetsuit for my first race. Cue a frantic drive back, a back-street hand-off where a friend literally threw the suit into my car, and a sprint to the start line with seconds to spare!

By day, I work in finance, so stepping in as Treasurer to manage the club's books is a natural fit. My goal is to ensure our balance sheet is as robust as our athletes—and that our capital is managed with slightly more planning than my first transition!

IT Director | Bas

Hi everyone! I’m Bas, born and raised in the Netherlands. I transitioned from cycling to triathlons in 2022. My first Olympic race was a disaster—turns out you need to breathe on both sides to avoid drinking the ocean. Since then, I’ve learned to swim properly and love racing all distances. I joined ATAC in 2024, loved the supportive community, and as a massive IT nerd, I’m thrilled to be your IT Director.

Running DIRECTOR | Phil

I am originally from Germany and joined ATAC one week after I moved to Amsterdam in late 2022. I started running in early 2020 and have constantly been running since. My triathlon journey evolved out of running: First, I was a runner. I constantly research running related knowledge in technique, training, nutrition, gear. I usually run four to five times per week and am constantly trying to self improve. The baseline, why I started running in the first place, is to relieve stress, take care of my mental health and to spend time outdoors. I have a high passion about running and love to share my enthusiasm about it. I am the guy who starts talking about running at the party.

communications DIRECTOR | vacant

Comms director: signal lost.

We’re missing the voice behind ATAC—the person who keeps our 500-strong crew informed, inspired, and occasionally entertained. From crafting witty WhatsApp posts to updating the website and helping shape our newsletters, the comms director is our storyteller-in-chief.

If you love clear messages, good vibes, and keeping the conversation flowing, step up and help make sure ATAC stays loud and proud.

membership DIRECTOR | Enrique

Hi, I’m Enrique. I’m Mexican (with a Dutch passport) and have lived in Europe since 2007—most of that in Amsterdam. I joined ATAC in 2018 and returned in 2022, because it really is the best triathlon club in the city! I’ve been doing triathlon since 2006, after being challenged by some ex-coworkers, and I’ve been hooked ever since. I’ve completed two full Ironman races, several half distances, and many Olympic and sprint triathlons. I love how triathlon keeps me fit, focused, and healthy. People say you have to walk before you run—I say, swim and bike first!

Cycling director | arnout

Hi, I’m Arnout. I’m Dutch and rejoined life in the Netherlands in summer 2024 after 13 years abroad, most recently in Japan. I was searching for a triathlon club with an international spirit—and found ATAC. My journey into triathlon started after knee surgery ended my marathon-running days. I wasn’t fast enough to keep up with the cyclists, so I figured I’d mask my lack of talent by doing all three sports instead! I love discovering new places, people, and ideas—both through travel and through sport.

triathlon DIRECTOR | Bob

Bob is currently stuck in transition, trying to get a wetsuit off over their head. Intro coming soon—as soon as they clear the penalty box!

swimming DIRECTOR | Carla

Hey, I'm Carla, originally from Mexico! I started triathlon out of boredom during COVID and ended up doing a 70.3 as my very first race. Since then, I've completed four 70.3s, four marathons, a solo 10km island swim, and a 30km team relay swim.

Water is definitely my element. Beyond triathlon, I love open-water swimming, freediving, scuba diving, surfing, and pretty much anything aquatic. As Swim Director, I hope to share my passion, create fun and supportive swim experiences for everyone, and encourage more people to discover how rewarding swimming can be!

SOCIAL Director | Jorrit

My name is Jorrit Dijkstra, I live in Amsterdam and I'm a fanatical athlete. What fascinates me about triathlon and ATAC in particular is the constant desire people have to keep growing. I find ATAC inspiring: the club truly helps you get the most out of yourself, both athletically and personally.

Everyone here learns to push their boundaries. The community of athletes forms the foundation for collective growth. As Social & Event Director, I hope to continue encouraging and supporting you all in the most important fourth discipline of triathlon: the third half.
